Ruth Allen Watkins celebrated her 90th birthday on April 5. A party in her honor with family and friends was held at Charleys Waterfront Café. Watkins taught at the elementary schools in Appomattox and Prince Edward and later taught business. Her words of wisdom on living a long life are, “study hard, get an education, save and work hard.” One of her most memorable experiences was seeing President Barack and Michelle Obama in February when her granddaughter received the Counselor of the Year Award for Virginia.
