The Friends of the Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library recently opened its newest Free Little Library in Meherrin. This is Prince Edward County’s third Little Library, which seeks to serve as a source of reading materials for the unserved and underserved in the county. “The Little Free Library will be filled with books and is based on the honor system of ‘Take a book, leave a book,’” according to a library press release. Pictured are, from left, Vicky Page, chair of the friends group; Peggy Epperson, director of the Central Virginia Regional Library; David Marcellin; Zhayrie Johnson; Jean Barns, Leigh District Supervisor Jerry Townsend; Mike Patel, owner of Meherrin Stop and Shop; Harriett Fentress; and Farmville District Representative and Board of Supervisors Chairman Howard Simpson. We commend the library for spreading literacy to all parts of Prince Edward County outside of the walls of the library.
