H-SC BASEBALL ADVANCES TO ODAC TOURNEY

Hampden-Sydney College’s baseball team had a strong finish to the regular season, sweeping Washington and Lee University by scores of 2-1 and 7-5 on Saturday and securing a spot in the 2016 ODAC Baseball Tournament.

In game one, Reggie Johnson (Dunnsville/Essex) pitched nine strong innings, and then Matt Hinson (Kinston, N.C./Arendell Parrott Academy) picked up the win after throwing two scoreless extra innings.

Moe Gothe (Chester/Thomas Dale) doubled in the eleventh and was later driven in on a walk-off sacrifice fly from Jacob Fontana (Midlothian/Clover Hill).

In the second game, the Tigers scored three runs in the third and four runs in the sixth.

Brian Goodwyn (Chester/Thomas Dale), Lee Carneal (Charlottesville/Albemarle) and Devin Daugherty (Norcross, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian) each had two hits.

The Tigers (26-13, 12-8 ODAC) face Washington and Lee again on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the ODAC Tournament, held at Lynchburg City Stadium.
