The Virginia High School League (VHSL) is holding registration for the 20th annual VHSL Student Leaders Conference, which will have a #BeWellDoGood theme focusing on mental and physical wellness and community.
The conference will be held at South Lakes High School in Reston on April 15-16.
The keynote speaker will be Harvey Alston, coordinator for the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Student Leaders Conference, the largest conference of its kind in the country, according to a VHSL release.
“He is a member of the National Speakers Association, serves on the advisory board for the National Federation of State High School Associations (and many other civic boards, panels and commissions) and is a contributing writer for Highland Lakes magazine,” according to the release.
Phil Boyte will be the closing keynote speaker.
“Phil believes school culture matters. Whether keynoting a large conference or talking individually with a student or staff member, Phil connects with people,” stated the release. “ He leaves crowds inspired, excited and ready to use their initiative to enhance the world around them.”
Stu Shaffer will also appear at the conference. Shaffer was once the president of the California Association of Directors of Activities and the Leadership Association of Southern California.
“He has been named California’s Activity Director of the Year, has received CADA’s prestigious Jack Moore Award for lifetime contribution to student activities, is a member of CADA’s Hall of Fame and was honored with the national Earl Reum Award in 2004,” the release stated.
