Tigers baseball hold on for 8-7 Win over averett

The Hampden-Sydney College baseball team got back in the win column, holding on for an 8-7 win over Averett on Tuesday.
The Tigers led big for much of the game, taking an 8-1 lead into the final frame before Averett nearly made the comeback, scoring six runs in the ninth. With the win, the Tigers improve to 17-10 overall while the Cougars drop to 14-15.
The Tigers pitched by committee, with seven hurlers seeing the mound. Matt Hinson (Kinston, N.C./Arendell Parrott Academy) got the start, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in four innings work.
Brian Goodwyn went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Ryan Peevey finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBI.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Eastern Mennonite for a 12 p.m. game.
