Straight Street to hold banquet

Straight Street-Buckingham, Inc., will hold its annual fundraising banquet on Saturday at Dillwyn First Baptist Church. The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and includes lasagna, salad, rolls and dessert. A musical program presented by local Buckingham talent will follow the meal. Tickets are $20. For ticket information contact Kathy Ranson at (434) 983-2403 or Michelle at (434) 983-1745.

Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center, on State Route 723, is holding its annual $5,000 raffle on Saturday.  Only 300 tickets are being sold at $75 each with proceeds going to support the operation of the 4-H Center as well as the summer camp program. A silent auction begins at 4:30 p.m. Included in the price of the ticket is a barbecue dinner at 5 p.m. The raffle drawing will be at 6 p.m. Midway during the drawing, there will be a live auction of a variety of sports memorabilia and other objects. Included in the auction are: signed footballs (one was signed by Coach Frank Beamer before retirement and another by University of Richmond (UR) Coach Danny Rocco), football tickets to the Virginia Tech-Tennessee game in Bristol, tickets to some UR games (including with JMU), numerous sets of coins and other items. Sharon Baptist Church, 1627 Sharon Church Road, (1.5 miles from the intersection of Route 20 and Glenmore Road), has announced a Bluegrass and Gospel Concert by Willow Branch on Saturday, March 19, from 7-8:30 p.m. Willow Branch has twice been named Best Bluegrass Band by the VA Folk Music Association. There will be a soup supper before the concert at 6 p.m.  All are welcome. There is no admission charge, but donations are appreciated and will support the Sharon Church Fellowship Hall Building Fund.
