On Saturday, Fuqua School sophomores Max Gebauer, Paavan Bonagiri and Alice Zhong and freshman Christopher Kendall competed in the Virginia Catholic Forensic League (VCFL) State Tournament. Competing in the Lincoln-Douglas category, Gebauer placed fourth and qualified to compete in the National Catholic Forensic League Tournament to be held in Sacramento, Calif., May 27-29.

Bonagiri went 2-1 in his first three debates and placed seventh, just missing the chance to debate for a bid to the national tournament.

Debate Coach Dr. Bob Frank said, “To have two debaters at this level in our first year of debate is amazing.”

Kendall competed in debate, and Zhong in declamation and both look forward to competing again next year.

Fuqua said it is proud to bring debate back on campus and is forming a Forensics Hall of Fame honoring Dr. Nancy Anderson Haga. The induction evening will include presenting the 2015-2016 Debate and Forensics Team.
