Event organizers deserve our thanks

In February, hundreds of Black History Month events and activities took place at churches, schools and community centers across the Heart of Virginia, offering the community a glimpse into the rich history and numerous contributions of African Americans. The plethora of events afforded communities ways to learn about cultures, people, ideas and events that have impacted the lives of all Americans. These events — many of which included food, music and numerous educational aspects — didn’t happen by themselves. We thank each volunteer that participated in these activities. Pictured are event organizers, from left, Vera Cooke-Merritt, Joyce Booker and Joe Scruggs, who were among a large committee of volunteers who organized the eighth-annual African American Banquet sponsored by the United Baptist Association and Women’s Missionary and Educational Convention of Central Virginia. We commend them and all other organizers for enriching the community. (Send ‘Way to Go’ photos with names and a description to waytogo@farmvilleherald.com.)
