Curdsville plans potluck; yoga class to start

The Curdsville Community Center will hold its first monthy meeting of 2016 on Monday at 6:30 p.m. While there is usually a program, there will be no program during this meeting so everyone will have time to socialize.  The meal is potluck and is always good.

The Community Center is located at 122 School Road just off of Route 15, 9 miles south of Sprouses Corner and 2 miles north of Sheppards Corner. Everyone is invited to join in the fellowship and enjoy the food.

Beginning Thursday, the CVCHC-Beulah M. Wiley Fitness Center, at 258922 N. James Madison Hwy, New Canton, will offer an integral yoga class at 5:15 p.m. Taught by Heather Nolen, a certified instructor, the class will last about an hour.

The class is free for members of the gym and $7 for non-members. For more information contact Deborah Tyson at (434) 581-3271, extension 10601. The BMWC houses a state-of-the-art fitness center (gym) with weight machines, free weights, cardio equipment and group exercise room.

There are locker rooms for ladies and men, a play area for young children and a variety of opportunities for community members to engage in enjoyable and healthy activities.

The Miss Buckingham Pageant takes place Saturday at 7 p.m at Buckingham County High School.

The cost of admission is $8, and all proceeds go to the Dillwyn Fire Department. While you are cheering on the contestants you are also benefitting the local fire department.

On Sunday at 4 p.m. the James River Baptist Association will hold a benefit concert featuring Chris Lewis at Jones Chapel Baptist Church, 947 Trents Mill Road, in Cumberland.

There will be good music and fellowship for all. There will be no admission charge, but a love offering will be taken for Stop Hunger Now to fund a meal-packing event scheduled for May 1.

This will be the eighth meal-packing event hosted by the JRBA. To date, the JRBA has packaged 153,798 meals to help feed the hungry in Haiti, Uganda, the Philippines, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, the Ivory Coast and South Africa. For directions, call (434) 390-0384.
