Astronomy program set at Bear Creek

The Crewe Astronomy Club will return to present its popular spring astronomy program at Bear Creek Hall at Bear Creek State Park on Saturday at 7 p.m. An indoor presentation will be given on how to get started in astronomy and answer questions about the sky or telescopes.

Outside the hall participants will have a chance to observe the planet Jupiter and its moons, the center of the Milky Way, the Great Double Cluster in the constellation Perseus the Orion Nebula under Orion’s belt. Since the moon will not be up until early morning, many other deep sky objects outside our solar system will be visible.

The program is free; daily parking rates apply. Bear Creek Lake State Park is located in Cumberland County a few miles north of Route 60 along Route 622. The entrance to the park is on Oak Hill Road, Route 629. For more information, contact the park office at (804) 492-4410 or bearcreek@dcr.virginia.gov.
