During the Meherrin Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad’s annual awards event, several volunteers were recognized for their service and dedication to the community. Pictured are, from left, Jacob Taylor, assistant chief; Jerry Banton, chaplain; Ernie Pyle, captain, who received the Ernest Herzig Bingo Award; Curtis Nash, engineer; James Hurt, president; Erin Pyle, secretary; Sally Pyle, first EMS lieutenant; Trey Pyle, EMS captain, who received the EMT of the Year and J.T. Newman Training awards; and Andrew Tatum, chief. Not pictured are Leon Scott, who won the Firefighter of the Year Award, and David Gray, who received the Outstanding Service Award. We commend not only these men and women for their service, but the entire department and all of our community’s EMS and fire department volunteers for their dedication.
