FARMVILLE — The Farmville Town Council has agreed to grant parking in the town’s municipal lot for visitors and employees of the Hotel Weyanoke.
According to councilman and Town Assets and Resources Committee member Thomas Pairet, the initial recommendation was to grant use of the Farmer’s Market parking lot and the town’s municipal lot.
“We’ve decided that we would recommend to council the municipal lot only due to the fact of so many things going on in that (Farmer’s Market) area over there. We didn’t want to disrupt what all was going on,” said Pairet.
Town Manager Gerald Spates said if Weyanoke employees wanted to use the spaces located at the Farmer’s Market, they would need to pay using meters.
The proposed parking agreement is to allow the Hotel Weyanoke the use of 60 parking spaces in the municipal lot at $20 per space, which could bring the town $1,200 a month in revenue.
An extensive renovation is planned for the hotel, including additional rooms at the rear of the building where residents currently park.
