WCBC makes plans for Arts/Crafts Show

Announcements of events this week once again demonstrate the variety of talents, skills and interests of the residents of Buckingham County.

The Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary has announced applications for the 2016 Miss Buckingham Pageant are now available on its Facebook page, at the Dillwyn firehouse and at Buckingham County schools as well as Blush, New Images, Special Touch Florist, Farmers Bank and at Moss Motor Co. Peter Francisco Soil and Water Conservation District is accepting applications from youth in grades 9-12 residing in Buckingham and Cumberland counties for Youth Conservation Camp (YCC) at Virginia Tech for the week of July 10-16.  The district will sponsor two participants interested in experiencing this environmental camp. Deadline to apply for sponsorship is Monday, May 2. A $1,000 college scholarship is available for students interested in natural resource conservation and/or environmental studies.  Students must be residents of Buckingham or Cumberland counties. Meetings of the Buckingham Active Seniors are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at the old Dillwyn Primary School, (across from Dillwyn Fas Mart). For more information contact Tiffany Ownby, Buckingham County assistant parks & recreation director at (434) 969-4242. 

The Woman’s Club Buckingham County GFWC announces its annual Art and Craft Show. The club invites students from the schools (or home-schooled) as well as members of the community to participate. The show will be held at the Buckingham Art Center located on Rt. 60 in Buckingham. Art and crafts may be submitted on Sunday, Feb. 13, 1-4 p.m., at the Art Center. Categories for submission include watercolor, oil and acrylic painting, photography, needlework of all kinds (crocheting, embroidery, knitting, quilting) as well as woodworking. On consecutive Sundays, Feb. 21 and Feb. 28, 1-4 p.m., there will be an open house at the center.
