A water leak closed Cox Residence Hall at Longwood University most of the day Tuesday.

According to a notice sent to students, the building was “temporarily closed while university and town crews work to resolve a water leak. All students who live in the residence hall are affected.”

The water leak was between Cox and Wheeler residence halls, said Longwood spokesman Matt McWilliams.

Students were admitted to reenter Cox Tuesday at 6 p.m., he said.

About 160 students live in Cox Hall.

“We got all the students out of there and they’re working with residence and commuter life to find … temporary accommodations while we work to resolve it.”

McWilliams said while there was “a good amount” of water in the basement of the building, there was no water in student rooms.

“Students in Wheeler [Residence Hall] lost [water] pressure during the day,” he said. “They don’t have domestic water … They can stay in their rooms,” McWilliams said.
