Lucy Frances Apperson Hanes (MamaLou), 97, of Dillwyn, surrounded by family at her home, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, January 21, 2016. She was born on November 29, 1918 in Dillwyn, a daughter of the late Calvin Talmadge Apperson and Mary Eliza Garrison Apperson.  In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Elijah A. Hanes, son, Robert B. Hanes, sister, Mary Cunningham, four brothers, Talmadge Jr., Doty, John and Billy and two infant sons.

She was a devoted wife and loving mother of 11 children.  She leaves to cherish her memory, Mary Heath, Talmadge Hanes (Woody), Edward Hanes, Cornelia Hildebrand (Wayne), William Hanes, Rebecca Goodwin (Frank  Davis), Loretta Seay (Hamden)and Adrienne Temple (Mickey Tyson); 13 adoring grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on January 27 at 3 p.m. at the Hanes Chapel United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday for 6 until 7:30 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hanes Chapel United Methodist Church, 1170 Coppermine Road, Dillwyn, VA 23936.
