FARMVILLE — Longwood University has banned hoverboards and self-propelled scooters from its campus.

According to an email sent to students from Vice President for Student Affairs Tim Pierson, the prohibition was put in place “because of widespread and ongoing safety concerns over hoverboards and self-propelled scooters.”

“Batteries in these devices are dangerous and prone to explosion, creating a significant safety and fire risk to the campus community. While these devices are currently prohibited from use in university buildings under “Policy 3401: Bicycles, Skateboard, In-Line Skates and Scooter Policy,” our ban extends to the entirety of campus, including all university-managed off-campus housing.”
