Stew held, Thanksgiving events planned

The Prospect Community Thanksgiving Service will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. sponsored by the churches of the Prospect community and will be held this year at Glenn Memorial Baptist Church.

All are invited to come and give thanks for what we have.

Do you need pecans? Mrs. Peggy Emert is selling Schermer pecans from Georgia for the March of Dimes for $12 per pound; to order call Emert (434) 574-6711.

On Saturday, Mrs. Dianna Smith, daughter Brianna, and Dianna’s mother-in-law Mrs. Pat Smith went to Appomattox for hair appointments, shopping and lunch.

On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith traveled to Unionville to visit Pat’s father John Keavney.  Pat stayed to help her father with some chores while Jeff drove to Stafford to visit with his mother, Mrs. Dolores Smith. Jeff then returned to Unionville to pick up Pat for the ride home to Farmville.

Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith hosted the monthly small group meeting for Faith Bible Fellowship. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. John Utzinger, Mr. and Mrs. Al Quinlan, Mrs. Hilde Watson and Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClintock.

Wednesday morning Mrs. Norma Hertzler and Mrs. Pat Smith met for breakfast at Merk’s.

Betty Noblin and Alice Templeton enjoyed the Christmas Show at STEPS Saturday.

Mrs. Flora Bolt attended the funeral for Mrs. Mary Kidd Senger on Nov.9 at New Store Presbyterian Church.

Sunday was a big day at Appomattox PE Presbyterian Church at Tuggle; during the worship service over 100 shoeboxes were dedicated.

The Shoe Box Mission is sponsored by the Franklin Graham Samaritan’s Purse. Church members filled boxes with a toy, school supplies and hygiene items for a boy or girl to be given to children all over the world for Christmas. For some children this is all they will receive for Christmas. A prayer goes into each box for the child.

There was a large crowd that remained at Appomattox PE Presbyterian Church on Sunday for the Brunswick stew. Elders Steve Bolt and William McGuire arrived at church around 4:30 a.m. to start the stew that they started serving around 12:30 p.m.

Some of out-of town-guests were Mr. and Mrs. Truman Bolt Jr. of Willis, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Bolt of Rice, Mrs. Marsh Bolt of Rice, Lawrence Bolt of Amelia and Neal Fisher. The ladies of the church furnished sandwiches. Thanks to everyone for their help.

Glenn Memorial Baptist Church at Prospect will hold its Senior Dinner on Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. All are invited; bring a covered dish to share.

The Oak Hill Boys will perform at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited; a love offering will be taken.

The members of Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invite you to worship Sunday with the Rev. Chuck Klotzberger.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to worship with Sunday School is at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Caitilin R. Hoy this Sunday.

Calvary Chapel Farmville, 302 Industrial Park Road, will have a Thanksgiving service and meal at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. All are invited.
