Tigers place 6th in VSGA

Despite rainy conditions, Hampden-Sydney sophomore Austin Fockler (Richmond/St. Christopher’s) shot a 67 in the second round of the Virginia State Golfer’s Association Intercollegiate to take home medalist honors with an even par. Fockler’s performance helped the Tigers to a sixth place finish in the field of 12. Ferrum won the team event with an 18 over par outing, while Roanoke (+23), Bridgewater (+28) and Shenandoah (+28) rounded out the top four.
Sophomore Hill Donihe (Roanoke/Patrick Henry) used rounds of 74 and 73 (+7) to tie for 19th, and freshman Jamie Agnew (Fairfax/Flint Hill School) was just two strokes behind (75-74-149) to tie for 24th.
Freshman Will Snyder (Fairfax/Flint Hill School) finished tied for 37th at 14 over par (75-79-154), and junior Alex Simmons (Charlottesville/Albemarle) shot a 75 on day one but did not complete round two.
Hampden-Sydney will return to action at the Royal Lakes Tournament at the Royal Lakes Golf Course in Flowery Branch, Ga. The event will take place on Oct. 5 and 6.
