Knights squash Amelia, 67-17

The Buckingham Knights won their third straight game in seven days on Friday when they defeated Amelia County High School, 67-17.

“We beat a good football team on Friday night and I am so proud of the young men on this team,” said BCHS head football coach Craig Gill. “We had short preparation time and we fought through questionable calls. I am proud of the team and the coaches for carrying out a great game plan.”

With the win, the Knights sit at the top of the James River District standings with a 5-0 record and trail Appomattox (7-0, 27.14286 rating) in second place in the Courthouse Conference 37 standings with a 7-1 conference record and 23.000 rating.

Senior Leon Ragland led the Knights with 16 carries for 188 yards, a reception for 56, four touchdowns and a two-point conversion. B.J. Gough followed with 14 carries for 179 yards and threw two touchdowns. He also went 2-for-3 in passing for 79 yards.

Daniel Brickhill had two carries for two yards and two touchdowns, while Rajheem Holman and a two-point conversion as well. Hunter Edwards had a reception for 23 yards that led to a touchdown and a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Zach Baird went 6-for-7 in extra points and kicked a field goal. Brycen Newby led the Knights defense with 6.5 tackles and one-and-a-half tackle for a loss. Sean Ayres followed with six tackles and a tackle for a loss.

The Knights will have a bye on Friday and will return to play on Oct. 30 when they travel to Randolph-Henry for a 7 p.m. game.
