After 32 years of service in the Navy, Quentin “Que” Wilhelmi “retired” to Farmville. In November  1981, he joined the Rotary Club of Farmville.

Que served the club in several positions through the years including president in 1987-1988, the year of the club’s 50th anniversary. He also served as the club’s sergeant-at-arms for the last several years.

Que not only served at the local club level, but also did work at the district level as well. Que was a district assistant governor in 2001-2002. He was the district’s chair for Group Study Exchange (GSE) for many years, and was the GSE team leader to Japan in 2004. Just last year, Que attended the district conference and was installed as a charter member of the Alumni Association.

Que was a model Rotarian. He always put service above self. He was a tireless worker.

Through all his years in Rotary, with several years of perfect attendance and always attending every fundraising event, he was ready to work in whatever role he was able. We will miss seeing Que sitting at the ticket booth, greeting people as they come to our events.

Current District Foundation Chair James Probsdorfer remembered that “Que always had a smile for everyone and he was willing to assist in any way possible to help Rotarians.”

Que was not only generous with his time, but also contributed regularly to the Rotary Foundation. Que is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow (for every $1,000 donated), including one in the name of his beloved wife, Gretchen. Que was also a sponsor for many of our fundraisers under the name of his retirement farm, Someday Farms. This includes this year’s Farmville Beer Fest.

Que will be greatly missed by his family, by the Rotary Club and by the Farmville community.

I challenge everyone to live as Que did  with a life of service.

Que not only gave 32 years of service to his country in the U.S. Navy, but continued to give many years of service to his community through his roles in many different community organizations. The world would be a much better place if we had more people like Que.
