Robert Browning Hanes, Sr., 70, of Dillwyn, died August 31, 2015. He was preceded in death by is father, Elijah Ayres Hanes.

He is survived by his mother, Lucy Apperson Hanes of Dillwyn; a son, Robert Browning Hanes Jr. of Appomattox; five sisters, Mary Francis H. Heath of Dillwyn; Cornelia H. Hilderbrand of Dover, PA; Becky H. Goodwin and Loretta H. Seay, both of Dillwyn; and Adrienne Temple of Buckingham; three brothers, Talmadge A. Hanes, Edward A. Hanes, both of Dillwyn, and William R. Hanes, of Powhatan; two grandsons, Noah Browning Hanes and Jackson Tapscott Hanes of Appomattox; and many nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service and interment was held Thursday, September 3, at Hanes Chapel U.M.C.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Buckingham County Rescue Squad or the Dillwyn Fire Department.

Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, was in charge of arrangements.
