Reader questions arrest lists

In regards to the new Farmville Herald…the size great, the layout fine. But, some of the contents I struggle with.

The various counties’ arrest records for one. Some of the situations resulting in arrest cause great pain to these people and just putting it in print only deepens it. My viewing it changes nothing, only makes me sad for those going through personal issues from domestics, alcohol and bad choices. Yes, it is “public record” and I can go inquire at the government offices anytime to see, but to just put it out there for the world seems rather “tabloid-like.”

I have wondered if this new decision to publicize this news and all property transfer amounts was made to “sell papers,” not to keep your readers up-to-date on events and the news that affects their lives.

I have subscribed to The Herald for many years, but these new “need to know but makes no difference in my life” segments make me rethink if I really need that paper. Life is tough enough for some without putting it out there for the world to see “public information.” There must be other news to fill those pages and have readers enjoy.
