Chris Shields, a 6-8, 205-pound swingman from Hedgesville, W.Va., has joined the Longwood men’s basketball roster, head coach Jayson Gee announced.
A former West Virginia AAA State Champion at Hedgesville High School, Shields comes to Longwood after two postgraduate seasons, his first at Elev8 Sports Institute in Delray Beach, Fla., and last year at Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro. Those prep seasons followed a high school career in which he averaged 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds as a senior and 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game as a junior for the Eagles.
“Chris is a great addition to our Lancer Basketball Family,” said Gee, now in his third season at Longwood’s head coach.
“Chris has traveled a long road to get here, spending two years attending prep school before finally deciding to become a part of our program. He is a multi-skilled player with the ability to play four positions on the court. He will add to an already deep roster and, more importantly, add high character to our community.”
A former team captain at Hedgesville, Shields joins a Longwood roster that returns all but two letterwinners and one starter from last season’s Big South semifinal squad. Shields becomes part of a front-court rotation that includes returning starters Lotanna Nwogbo and Damarion Geter as well as three veteran reserves.
