Fall events continue with reunions and get-togethers

“Remember to go out of your way to do something kind once in awhile.”

The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department will hold their 55th annual Harvest Sale Oct. 3 with yard and bake sale starting at 7 a.m. with the yard sale ending at noon. The auction starts at 1 p.m., and the barbecue dinner starts at 4 p.m. Plan to meet family and friends at Prospect for the wonderful event.

The Prospect Historical Society will name the winners of its raffle Oct. 6. Tickets ($1) are available from society members or call 574-6140 or 392-6431.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows attended the Senior Adult Program at Farmville United Methodist Church on Thursday. A delightful and informative program on Brain Health and Fitness was presented by Ann Bailey, of Longwood University. Afterwards a delicious luncheon was served.

Mrs. Flora Bolt and Mrs. Frances Anderson attended the dinner at the Curdsville Community Center Sept. 7.

Miss Jennifer Bolt and her grandmother Mrs. Flora Bolt attended the Farmville/Prince Edward Historical Society meeting Sept. 15 at the Farmville Train Station. Jimmy Hurt gave a most interesting program on old postcards, mostly from his private collection. Many were from Farmville.

The Senior Group from Calvary Chapel Farmville Church met at Merk’s Sept. 14.  Enjoying breakfast together were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Spiggle, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith, Mrs. Louisa Baker, Mrs. Anna Grandinetti, Mr. Larry Lee and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hertzler.

On Sept. 19 Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith attended the family reunion held at the home of Pat’s father John Keaveny Sr. in Unionville.  Also attending were the Smith’s son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith and children, Brianna, Charles Jr. and Christina and the Smith’s daughter, Mrs. Emma Sharpe and her son Jeffrey.  Mr. Keaveny’s brother, Dennis Keaveny and their sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Covell along with Pat’s brothers John Keaveny Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Keaveny and their children, Baron, Ryan, Kendra, Josh and Simone and Ariel, were also guests.  Nephews Brian McGough, George McGough and daughter, Pete McGough, Tom Keaveny, Tim Keaveny, Sean Keaveny and Jimmy VonSchimmel and nieces Korrine Sebel, Alexandria Nelson, Jeannine Fitzpatrick and husband, George and grandniece, Jessica Williams and children, Ian and Lana all gathered for the reunion.  Local friends and neighbors were also present at the event with approximately 60 guests.  Prior to the catered luncheon there was a memorial service to honor the late Eleanor Keaveny, Pat’s mother.  

On Sept. 21 Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith hosted the Faith Bible Fellowship small group at their home. Guests included Mrs. Hilde Watson, Mr. and Mrs. Al Quinlan, Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClintock and Mr. and Mrs. John Utzinger.

On Sept. 5 Mrs. Flora Bolt attended the Welcome Home Party for Miss Taylor Southall. She was returning home from the country of Kyrgyzstan where she was teaching for the Peace Corps. The party was given by her grandmother Mrs. Frances Southall and Taylor’s father Charles Southall, Jr. at the home of her grandmother. About 17 people attended. Welcome home Taylor!

On Sept. 17 Mrs. Flora Bolt and Mrs. Frances Ollie met for lunch at Merk’s Place.

Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for Vickie Oakes, Barbara Hardinge, Shirley Martin, Hilda Friend, Elfrieda Kerns, Betty Jean Bolt and Mildred Harvey Shanks.

The members of Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invite you to worship with them each Sunday. Kemper Beasley III will be with them on Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to Sunday School at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville, 302 Industrial Park Road, invites you to worship Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday for Bible study at 7 p.m.
