Colonial Agricultural Foundation awards scholarships

The Colonial Agricultural Educational Foundation recently selected area recipients of scholarships as part of their 2015 scholarship program. The Foundation awarded a total of $149,500 in scholarships to 85 students residing in central and eastern Virginia and southern Maryland. 

The following local students were awarded a scholarship for the 2015-2016 academic year: Collin Wade Arthur – University of Virginia- $1,500; Brittany Lynn Cage – Southside Virginia Community College – $1,500; Sarah Cornelia Dunbar – Radford University – $1,500; Jason Taylor Ellington – University of Virginia – $1,500; Katarina Elise Gebauer – University of Richmond – $1,500; Jennifer Neal Green – Virginia Tech – $1,500; Callie Elizabeth Kunath – James Madison University – $1,500; Blair Elizabeth Lawson – Longwood University – $2,000; William Justin Marker – The College of William and Mary – $1,500; Tina Marie Moore – Longwood University – $1,500; Jordan Karrie Pegram – Virginia Tech – $1,500; Sarah Elizabeth Rash – Virginia Tech – $1,500; Christopher Hunter Shorter – Southside Virginia Community College – $1,500; John Robert Thomas – Virginia Commonwealth University – $1,500; Kenneth Edward Townsend – Virginia Tech – $1,500; Jonathan Mitchel Wallace – Virginia Tech – $1,500; Elise Marie Walton – Elon University – $1,500.

“We are very excited to be able to offer these scholarships to outstanding students in our area,” stated Gene Marker, president of the Foundation.  “We had hundreds of great applicants this year and wish all of the students the best of luck in their academic careers.”

The Foundation was established by agricultural lender Colonial Farm Credit in 1990 to promote education and community enrichment through educational scholarships and to support programs and services offered by community organizations.  Scholarships are awarded to individuals who exhibit an aptitude for learning and a desire for self-improvement through education.  To date, the Foundation has awarded more than $1,000,000 in scholarships.
