Celebrate Pamplin is planned for Saturday

Celebrate Pamplin will be held Saturday starting with the Ralph M. Hamlett inaugural 5K Fun Run down the High Bridge Trail scheduled for 9 a.m. The run is open to all runners, walkers, and leashed dogs with registration available that morning, or online at RaceIt.com. Electronic timing is provided by the Aid Station, and all participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and a participant’s medal at the end of the race.
From noon to 6 p.m., Pamplin’s Main Street will be filled with musicians and vendors. Local music will be on the Celebrate Pamplin stage starting at noon with the Pamplin Celebration Choir followed by the 12:30 p.m. Cowboy Shoot Out. Rebecca, the Singing Cowgirl and Soli Deo Gloria Ensemble featuring the Thompson Family will be followed by another shoot out at 3 p.m., then Shaky Grass will take the stage playing bluegrass followed by Deja Moo Again, Off the Cuff, and Farm Use String Band at 5 p.m.
The Pamplin Area Legacy Supporters (PALS) will hold a Cake Walk in the Depot Freight Room featuring homemade cakes and pies. PALS is the co-sponsor of this year’s event.
Gene and Claire Palmer will bring a horse-drawn surrey offering free rides through one of Pamplin’s quiet neighborhoods starting at 1 p.m. and running throughout the day (except during the Tom Mix Rangers Shoot-Out at 3 p.m.).
The Virginia Peacemakers Fast Draw Club will also be on hand offering the public a chance to challenge their fast draw skills in the Club’s timed booth. Shooters will be provided with instruction, and guns fire a safe wax bullet into a target placed between two buildings in a long alleyway.
Elon Baptist Church will again provide free bounce houses, and the Town of Pamplin will sponsor a Kids Arts and Crafts booth
Local artists will be on hand, and vendors will offer barbecue and Brunswick stew as well as ice cream, baked goods, and teriyaki chicken. Local jewelry artist Petie’s Gems will be showing along with a variety of other vendors. Visit the Town of Pamplin web site for a complete list of participants.
