Americans across the nation stopped Friday morning to reflect on the attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. As schools and organizations across the country remembered those who lost loved ones, ceremonies and events were held to remember the lives lost in the Heart of Virginia. Pictured, the Farmville Vol. Fire Department remembered and memorialized the victims by extending a ladder from their ladder truck, sounding engines’ horns and sirens and flying the Freedom flag. Pictured are, from left, front row, firefighters T. Lafollette, A. Sypolt, K. Howard, Chief A. Goss, M. Irwin, S. Mims, T. Atkinson and C. Vara. Standing on the fire truck are Lt. C. Clendenin, left, and Captain C. Eagles. (Photo by Jordan Miles)
