Editor:

Over the past years, I have watched as Walk2Campus has purchased real estate in the Town of Farmville. From their website and Farmville Herald reporting, Walk2Campus’ ownership consists of 47 single family properties converted to college housing, two commercial multi-family buildings (Prizery and a four-story Third Street location) and real estate purchased for future development (Southern States Building, Buffalo Shook Co., W.C. Newman Co. and a 55-acre island on the Appomattox River).

In everything that I have read, Walk2Campus and CEO Matt King have been given total credit for these acquisitions.

In 2013, Antonia Ax:son Johnson, of Stockholm, Sweden, was described by Forbes Magazine as the third richest Swedish billionaire having an estimated net worth of $9.2 billion. The Axel Johnson Group, founded by her great grandfather in 1873, owns Axel Johnson, Inc. (headquartered in New York City) which, according to their 2014 Annual Review, owns a 34 percent interest in Walk2Campus. This ownership started at 22 percent in 2010 and has steadily grown over the past years.

Also according to the 2014 Annual Review, Markel Corp. (NYSE:MLK) owns 34 percent of Walk2Campus.

The emphasis of this letter is to recognize the financial conglomerates with an ownership interest in Walk2Campus and not to continue the belief that it is a stand-alone entity.
