Ladies have tea, centenarian celebrates at Merk’s

The Prospect Historical Society will meet Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Prospect Fire Department. Come join them.

Prospect Historical Society members are selling tickets on a 14 -inch laptop, $50 gas card and $25 cash prize. The drawing will be Oct. 6. You may purchase a ticket ($1) from a member of the society or call 574-6140 or 392-6431.

Mrs. Ruth K. Simpson celebrated her 101st birthday last Thursday with dinner at Merk’s Place with most of her family and some friends.

Mrs. Flora Bolt visited with Mrs. Ruth Kelsey Simpson and Mrs. Ruth Southall at Holly Manor Aug.18.

On Saturday morning Mrs. Pat Smith attended the Calvary Chapel Ladies Tea held at the home of Mrs. Sherri Fisher.  Approximately 40 ladies attended the event.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith and daughter Brianna stopped by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith, to visit on Saturday afternoon.

Monday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith traveled to Chesterfield for a doctor’s appointment, did some shopping and then enjoyed lunch before returning home.

Peggy Kelsey and granddaughter, Debra Sue Shumaker flew to Nashville, Tenn. While there they were entertained by Phil and Melinda Kelsey at the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for: Vickie Oakes, Barbara Hardinge, Shirley Martin, Hilda Friend, Elfrieda Kerns, Betty Jean Bolt and Mildred Harvey Shanks.

Friends and neighbors are extending their sincere sympathy to the family of Mrs. Jean C. Wilson.

The members of Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invite you to worship. Richard Boswell will be with them on Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to worship; Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. This being the fifth Sunday there will only be Sunday School.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville, 302 Industrial Park Road, invites you to worship Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday for Bible Study at 7 p.m.
