Wayne and Cam Tinnell, of Farmville, celebrated their 50th anniversary last Sunday at Heritage Baptist Church with family and friends. Pastor Jeff Hudgins led a special worship service, and the Rev. Alden Hicks officiated a renewal of vows in which all married couples were invited to participate. The Tinnells, who met as college freshmen, married on Aug. 14, 1965. Wayne earned his PhD from Virginia Tech while Cam taught English and history at Blacksburg High School. The Tinnells came to Farmville in 1969 to teach at Longwood, Wayne in the Natural Science Department (microbiology) and Cam in the Dept. of English, Philosophy and Modern Languages. They retired after 30-plus years at Longwood to enjoy traveling and visiting family. They have two daughters, Sheri and Dawn, and two grandchildren, Joshua and Ava, children of Glenn and Sheri Dorsam, of Fargo, N.D. “Together we found a friendship, raised a family,  and with the help of God, built a lasting marriage,” the couple said.
