July 9 — “The shortest distance between two people is a smile.”

Gene and Lois Southall traveled to Ridgeway recently where they visited Dub and Vada Southall. Vada fell a few weeks ago and broke her leg. She had to go back to the hospital in Eden, North Carolina. After visiting with her at the hospital, Gene and Lois ate lunch with Dub at a restaurant in Eden. She is doing some better.

Jeff Smith and granddaughter, Brianna Smith, left for Elkins, West Virginia, on Sunday.  They spent the week at Davis and Elkins College attending the Augusta festival enjoying Cajun cooking, folklore, music and dancing.

Mrs. Norma Hertzler and Mrs. Pat Smith spent Tuesday morning shopping then had lunch at Merk’s Place. Joining them for lunch was Mrs. Ann Wade.

Mrs. Dianna Smith and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Pat Smith, went shopping and had lunch together on Thursday.

Hilda Allen, Lois Johnson and Richard and Margaret Stockton were among the many guests in attendance at the marriage ceremony of Polly Phelps and John Marsden at the College Presbyterian Church at Hampden Sydney on July 4. They are wished much happiness.

Eighteen family members got together July 1 at Merk’s Place for a birthday dinner in honor of Debbie Woodson whose birthday is July 8. Debbie is the daughter of Garland Woodson. All the folks enjoyed the beautiful decorated birthday cake.

Mrs. Flora Bolt and Mrs. Frances Ollie enjoyed getting together for lunch July 2 at Merk’s Place.

Classmates of the class of 1956 got together on July 1 for lunch at the Golden Palace. Much reminiscing was done as well as starting to make plans for their 16th reunion next year. Those present were: Blondell Bowman, Joyce Floyd, Margaret Stockton, Ruth Middlebrooks, Rita Lawhorne, Jo Smith, Kate Shorter, Shirley Fulcher as well as Fred Floyd, Richard Stockton and Sean Stockton.

Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for: Elfrieda Kerns, Julian Covington, Dorothy Womack, Betty Jean Bolt and Mildred Harvey Shanks.

Appomattox P E Presbyterian Church is 175 years old. The members are making plans for a celebration to be held in the fall. A date will be set very soon.

The members of Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invite you to worship with them each Sunday. The Rev. Chuck Klotzberger will be with them on Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to worship. Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m.

Calvary Chapel-Farmville invites you to worship with them on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

They invite you to join them each week on Wednesday evening for Bible study for all age groups at 7 p.m. The Church is located at 302 Industrial Park Road, in the former Stackpole-Carbone building.
