Plenty of blame for racial strife

Editor:

I continue to read letters to the editor that want to assign blame to white America for all of the problems that we are facing in our race relations today, the latest being the guest column by the Rev. Dr. George A. Bates (“The War Against Racism And Prejudice Must Be Multifaceted,” Wednesday, July 22).

To be sure, there are many problems in the attitude of white America as it relates to race relations, however I respectfully contend that this is not only white America, but goes across the board. You see it in every classification of people. There is enough blame to go around!

Rev. Bates focused on the shooting in Charleston, S.C., and seemed to ascribe blame to all of white America. If this be the case, I would ask about the shooting in Tennessee of our military personnel. Should we blame all Muslims? I think not! Both of these incidents were carried out by deranged, bitter young men and not a whole class of people.

A dedicated group of ministers has conducted the Revive Prospect Community Revival the first week of June for the past three years. If anyone wants to see how race relations should be conducted, they are invited to join us next year during the second week of June at Peaks Baptist Church in Prospect. We invite you to come and worship with us and pray for our country.

My good friend the Rev Robert Clark correctly points out that we don’t have a race problem but rather a sin problem. We all fail to follow the commandment of Jesus to “love thy neighbor as thyself.”
