Outdoor Film Series Continues

The Downtown Film Series will continue July 10 for “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” the season’s second presentation of the Stars Under the Stars program.
Nominated for five Oscars and winner for Best Scoring of a Musical, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” is listed as one of the Top Movie Musicals by the American Film Institute and is known for its rousing dance numbers and choreography. Based on the short story “The Sobbin’ Women,” “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” is set in 1850s Oregon and tells the story of a backwoodsman named Adam Pontipee and his rowdy younger brothers.
Adam comes to town looking for a wife and soon meets and falls in love with Milly. When she returns to his cabin, she realizes he has six brothers who also want to get married. Milly decides to help the brothers learn manners, social skills, and of course, how to dance. Using their new talents, the brothers meet six women at a barn raising. These women, however, already have suitors who aren’t about to let them go without a fight. The road to romance is a bumpy one in the Oregon mountains! The presentation will begin at dusk at the Crute Stage on the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in downtown Farmville. Come early for pre-show trivia and drawings. Parking is available on Main Street and in the municipal parking lot behind the courthouse.
Admission is free, and popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for purchase. Please note there is a “No Pets” policy. In the event of rain, the film will be shown the following evening at dusk. The final movie of the 18th season is “Raiders of the Lost Ark” on August 14.
The Downtown Film Series thanks the sponsors of this year’s film series: Central Virginia Regional Library, Putney Mechanical, Real Living Cornerstone, Red Door 104, Virginia Credit Union.
