CUMBERLAND, July 9 — Bonnie Llewellyn Dowdy, 66, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully and entered into her eternal rest in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 4, 2015. She was born July 26, 1948 in Cumberland to the late Garland L. Dowdy and the late Lucy Martin Dowdy (Polly).
Ms. Dowdy graduated from Cumberland High School and went on to attend Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond. Her career included work at The Boys Home of Virginia in Richmond, student counseling at Cumberland High and also many hours of tutoring boys and girls in the area. She was quite gifted in teaching and could help a child understand and learn the most difficult of subjects.
She spent her entire life in Cumberland where she enjoyed a quiet and simple life. She enjoyed the piano, cross-stitching and always loved animals and had a special place in her heart for them.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at The Woodlands in Farmville for their devoted care and also thank you to all the many caregivers, nurses and therapists who came and took care of her in the home. She so enjoyed and appreciated each of you.

Ms. Dowdy is survived by her beloved aunt, Mary Ann Martin of Cumberland; an uncle, William T. Martin of Richmond; several cousins and many friends in the community.
