CUMBERLAND — Snap! What’s a party without pictures?

Bear Creek Lake State Park considers 1940 the birth date of the park. By July of that year, construction was finished and the waters stocked with largemouth bass for the opening of fishing season. Seventy-five years later, it’s time to join the celebration by entering the It’s Our Birthday Selfie Contest!

The rules are simple: submit a photo selfie taken at Bear Creek Lake State Park. To enter: upload the photo to the Virginia State Parks Facebook page or tag the Virginia State Parks page when you post the picture to your Facebook page. Alternately, you may simply email your photo with your contact information to: bcinterpreter@dcr.virginia.gov.  Photographs must include something that identifies the photo as having been taken at the park (e.g. a sign, the beach, the lake, a park employee, a cabin view or campsite) and, of course, you. The park will have selfie sticks available for loan or purchase. You may enter as often as you like; all entries must be original, may not have won a previous prize and must not infringe on any third party rights

The contest will begin July 20 and conclude Aug. 29. A grand prize-winner and five runner-ups will be randomly selected by Bear Creek Lake State Park staff from all entries submitted. Submissions may be posted at kiosks in the park.
