What better way to celebrate the 239th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence than at the private retreat of the man who wrote it? Join Poplar Forest for Independence Day celebrations that might have intrigued Thomas Jefferson himself on Saturday, June 27, at 6 p.m. for one performance of “1776, The Musical.”

Theatre al fresco returns to Poplar Forest for an evening with the Renaissance Theatre’s special presentation of “1776.”  The Tony Award-winning musical comedy by Sherman Edwards and Peter Stone is  based on the events leading up to the drafting and signing of the Declaration of Independence. Revel in the spirit of the Revolutionary era with Ben (Franklin), Richard Henry (Lee), John (Adams) and Tom (Jefferson); become acquainted with their persona foibles and celebrate their brilliant contributions to our country’s history.

Advance reservations are suggested. Admission: adults (18 and over) $17.76; youth (ages 6-17) $13; children (ages 5 and under) $4. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Museum Shop at (434) 534-8120 or online at eventbrite.com
