BLACKSTONE — After losing 2-1 to the Dinwiddie Americans in the first round of the District 5 Minors All-Star tournament, the Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) team came back to win its next two games and remain alive in the tournament. PEFYA won 12-2 over Prince George on Sunday and beat Lunenburg 18-2 on Monday.

PEFYA began its tournament journey on Friday. PEFYA was the first to score with a run by Tanner Morris in the first inning. The Dinwiddie Americans returned with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

Neither team would score again until the fourth inning, when the Dinwiddie Americans scored their second run. The fifth and sixth innings would see no runs by either team, which ended the game.

PEFYA’s second game against Prince George was more action-packed. In the first inning alone, PEFYA scored six runs, while Prince George managed to score two. PEFYA would add two more runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth inning.

Austin Queensbury led PEFYA’s offense with three runs. Evan Nichols, Parker Furlong and Ian Wagner followed with two runs each. Matthew Holman, Walker Jenkins and Andreas Noraas finished with a run apiece.

PEFYA Minors Manager Jamie Morris commented on his team’s second game, saying, “I thought they played good and our pitching was great. Our hitting was not where it needs to be to win the tournament. Our pitching, our defense and our base-running is great. Once we get to hitting, we will be OK.”

PEFYA’s hitting improved in its Monday night game against Lunenburg, with 18 runs in just three innings.

Jenkins and Queensburg led PEFYA with three runs each. Morris, Furlong, Wagner, Noraas and Tyler Franklin had two runs apiece, while Nichols and Holman had a run each.

With its win against Lunenburg, PEFYA advanced to the fifth day of the tournament when they were scheduled to play Dinwiddie National on Tuesday night. See farmvilleherald.com for results.
