On June 3, 148 Prince Edward County Elementary School students made the transition from elementary to middle school at the division’s annual Stepping Up ceremony held at the Prince Edward County Middle School gymnasium. Elementary School Principal Amy McCurdy saluted and encouraged the students, reminding them to “always do the right thing,” to which the students replied in unison, “because it’s the right thing to do!”  Principal McCurdy urged the rising 5th graders to “be willing to keep learning from your teachers, coaches, and parents.»  Superintendent Dr. K. David Smith also encouraged the students to go forward, to be confident that there is «nothing to be afraid of.» Students were recognized by their teachers, followed by a special song performed by the entire 4th grade class.  Current 5th graders Ellie Shoenthal and Lucas Dudley welcomed the 4th graders to the Middle School.
