PRINCE EDWARD — Members of the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors, along with representatives of the Virginia Department of Transportation, will participate in a ribbon cutting on Thursday, July 2, at 9:30 a.m. to celebrate the completion of the new Route 623 (Twin Bridges Road) bridge.  The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at the bridge.  The public is invited to attend.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board in January 2014 awarded a $2.9 million contract to Allegheny Construction Company of Roanoke for the bridge replacement project.  The project was completed on time and on budget in June. The project replaces the two existing bridges over the double track Norfolk Southern Railway and the single track Virginia Southern Railway with one, two-lane bridge.  Along with the improvement to the horizontal roadway alignment, the project has improved safety and traffic flow on Route 623 (Twin Bridges Road).
