The Virginia section of the American Chemical Society sponsors a first-year and a second-year exam as part of the National Chemistry Olympiad competition.  Students scoring high on the second-year exam are then invited to participate with the National Chemistry Olympiad exam.

Team awards are given in each of two categories for each test for the team with the five highest scores.

The first category is Small School and Governor’s School.  The second category is Large School and Governor’s School.  This year Prince Edward County High School won the team award for the Large School and Governor’s School category on the first-year exam out of 11 participating schools.
