John Christian (J.C.) Snoddy, 85

BRIDGEWATER, June 4 — John Christian (J.C.) Snoddy, 85, formerly of New Canton, died at Bridgewater Retirement Community, Bridgewater, on Tuesday, June 2, 2015. He was born March 20, 1930, and was the son of the late John Bartley and Virginia Bersch Snoddy and husband of the late Hazel Dunkum Snoddy, all of Buckingham County.

Prior to his retirement, he was the Buckingham County building inspector, a carpenter and a farmer. He was enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War and was a devoted member of the Stonewall Masonic Lodge #200.

Mr. Snoddy volunteered many hours of service to the Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department. He was a long time member of the Arvon Baptist Church in Arvonia and more recently attended Bridgewater United Methodist Church. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a friend to many.

He is survived by his son, Neal Snoddy and wife, Denise of Bridgewater; granddaughters, Courtney Leach and husband, Tim of Penn Laird, and Melissa Ruliffson and husband, Allen of Broadway; grandson, Jonathan Snoddy and wife, Dana of Penn Laird; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Reese and Sydney Leach and Joey and Kendall Ruliffson. Along with his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by seven sisters and one brother.

A funeral service will be held on June 5 at 3 p.m. at the Arvon Baptist Church, Arvonia, with interment in the Buckingham Baptist Church Cemetery with masonic rites. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
