Recently during the Fuqua Upper School Awards Ceremony, the first Ruth S. Murphy Scholarship was presented.
Linda E. Davis, director of Communications and Special Events, shared the scholarship requirements, “Ruth S. Murphy served as president of Fuqua School from 1994 through 2015 and was highly respected for her strong leadership during this period of significant change. Her compassionate devotion to her teachers and students, her energy and optimism, creativity, and clear focus on the individual helped create a school community that celebrates the best in all of us.”
The scholarship, which is in the amount of $1,000, is presented annually to a current sophomore, junior, or senior who reflects the qualities that Ruth Murphy personified: inspiring and encouraging others, optimistic and energetic, compassionate, persevering, and forward-thinking. The 2015 scholarship was presented to Troy Tanner Howard, senior and son of Penny Howard and Jeffrey Howard, both of Farmville. Troy will attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in the fall.
