Danny Lee Townsend, 61

PROSPECT, April 14 — Danny Lee Townsend, 61, of Prospect, died Sunday, April 12, 2015. He was born on July 3, 1953 in Farmville to Woodrow Wilson Townsend and Dora Lowe Townsend.

He was an Eagle Scout, a past member of the International Order of the Odd Fellows, National Guard, Jaycees, Prince Edward County Rescue Squad and Southside Amateur Radio Association (N4YCX).

Mr. Townsend worked many years for the local phone company Centel and he was currently employed by RJE Company as a contractor He was an active supporter of the local Special Olympics and the local March of Dimes.

He had a great love of family and friends. He was an avid metal detector and enjoyed taking his family on his boat fishing and taking his family camping.

Mr. Townsend is survived by his wife, Bernice Wyland Townsend of 31 years; his sons, Paul Townsend (Crystal) of Prospect, Timothy Townsend (Becca) of Charlotte County, John Townsend, Daniel Townsend, and Matthew Townsend, all of Prospect; sister, Sharon Huddleston (Keith) of Farmville; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his sister, Pam Townsend and grandparents, John and Leona Lowe and Ed and Laura Townsend.

Visitation with the family will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday (tonight), April 14 at Puckett Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 15 at the Townsend Farm, 4600 Hardtimes Road, Tuggle.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Prince Edward County Rescue Squad.
