RICE, October 21 — Edward Marion Giles Jr., 93, of Rice, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014. He was born in Buena Vista to the late Edward M. and Ella Drain Giles on September 20, 1921.
Mr. Giles served his country during WWII as a private in the US Army. He worked construction as a carpenter for Andrews Large and Whitten until he retired. He was married to the late Gracie Franklin Giles and was a member of The Church of God in Farmville. His favorite things to do were going antiquing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by three sons, Jerry E. Giles (Joann), Rickey L. Giles (Sharon), and Glen M. Giles (Sherry); a daughter, Theresa A. Thompson (Dale); brothers, Paul, Fred, and Jack; sisters, Betty Lou Baldwin, Annie Mae D. Shows, Doris Jones, Mary Goodwin, and Frances Pulliam; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a beloved friend, Jimmy Cyrus. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Kenneth and Willie, and sister, Margaret.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, October 21 in the Chapel of Puckett Funeral Home with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
