Fancelle Liggins is one of six crossing guards in the state to be honored as “Outstanding Crossing Guards of the Year” for 2013. Liggins has worked Cumberland County Public Schools for over twenty years. According to school officials, she was nominated for several reasons, including her conscientiousness, her attention to child safety, her positive attitude, and her work ethic. The award was made possible by the Virginia Safe Routes To School Program, which was started to showcase the important role crossing guards play in each school community. (Photo by Ilsa Loeser)
