MAY 6 — Elner Virginia McFadden Slayton, 84, beloved mother, grandmother, wife and sister, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 in Farmville. She was born January 7, 1930 in Buckingham County to the late Harry Thomas and Berta Virginia Bryant McFadden. She was the widow of Russell Overby Slayton.

Mrs. Slayton is survived by a daughter, Patricia Slayton Goodson (Billy) of Norfolk; a son, Johnny Ray Slayton (companion, Sherry Collins) of Farmville; two grandchildren, Jamie Russell Slayton of Drakes Branch and Christopher William Slayton of Farmville; two great-grandchildren, Melody Slayton of Chesterfield and Noah Sprouse of Colonial Heights; two brothers, James William McFadden of Ohio and John Adams McFadden on South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lawrence McFadden, Dorothy McFadden Liptrap, Andrew Thomas McFadden and Shirley Arlene McFadden Pannell.

A funeral service was held Saturday, April 26 in the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer’s Association or Douglas Presbyterian Church.
