PRINCE EDWARD — County Sheriff Wesley Reed has announced that Major David Wilmoth has been appointed chief deputy.
Wilmoth is well versed in Prince Edward. Starting as a dispatcher as an 18-year-old in 1994, the Fuqua School graduate became a road deputy in 1996, went into investigations in 2006 until this year when he was appointed Chief Deputy.
He started December 1.
“All of it, to be honest with you,” Wilmoth said, when asked what he liked about law enforcement. “I’ve had the opportunity to work a lot of facets within the sheriff’s office and I’ve enjoyed all of it.”
Wilmoth succeeds the late Major David Eppes, who died unexpectedly in October.
Wilmoth has training in dispatching, is a graduate of Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, has been a firearms instructor since 2003 at the Academy, and attended basic investigator school through the FBI.
