January 2 — On Thursday, December 26, Barry and Linda Miles, of Cumberland, Susie Taylor, of Dillwyn, and Patricia Woodfin, of New Canton, all enjoyed the day by starting out with breakfast at a Farmville restaurant. As the day continued the next stop was at Bevell’s Hardware in Blackstone. Owner/manager Bobby Daniels has had a beautiful train display which was attracted thousands of spectators over the years. It is on display free to the public Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 3 p.m. starting after Thanksgiving and extending to the second Sunday in January.

Happy Birthday wishes are sent out this week to Tommy Jo (T.J.) Waycaster of Dillwyn, and Mryle Gibson, of Covington (mother of Fern Dunnavant of Dillwyn) celebrating on Sunday, January 5; Rev. Clyde Senger, of Crewe, pastor of Keysville Baptist Temple, celebrating on Monday, January 6, and Ann Carter, of Dillwyn, celebrating on Thursday, January 8.

Barry and Linda Miles along with Barry’s mother, Annie May Miles, of Dillwyn, attended the Christmas program at Powhatan Community Church shared by an evening meal at a Cumberland Restaurant and visited in the home of Ruby Cogdill on Tuesday, December 24. A nice time has had by all.

Boo and Peggy Weaver, of Chester, Jimmy and Judy Cogdill, of Powhatan, and Tommy and Mary Davis, of Sutherland, celebrated the 89th birthday of Ruby Cogdill on Thursday, December 2 at her home in Cumberland.

Barry and Linda Miles visited in the home of Elizabeth Stone in Dillwyn, and Grace Hudgins, of Cumberland, on Christmas evening, Wednesday, December 25.

Welcome home to Mae Rutherford of Cumberland who spent Christmas with her nephew Danny Figgins of Front Royal. A nice time was noted.

Miles will have an afternoon of Southern Gospel Music at Heritage Hall Nursing Home of Dillwyn on Friday afternoon, January 3, at 4:30 p.m. All are invited to attend.

The Appomattox County High School Athletic Booster Club will present a Bluegrass Concert Series for 2014. The first concert of the series presents Dailey and Vincent at the Appomattox County High School Auditorium on Sunday, January 12 at 2 p.m. Advance tickets for adults are $15; at the door tickets will be $20. Children (six-12) $5 children (five and under free).
