POWHATAN, December 31 — William E. Maxey Jr., 92, of Powhatan, peacefully departed this life at home on Sunday, December 22, 2013.

A lifelong resident of the county, he served its citizens with honor and dedication in various positions over more than 65 years following his Army service in World War II. He was a true gentleman, gracious, generous and humble.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services.
