Ernest Cleve Baldwin, 81

PAMPLIN, December 3 — Ernest Cleve Baldwin, 81, of Pamplin, went to his heavenly home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Billie Jean Letterman Baldwin. Born in Pamplin on January 1, 1932, he was a son of the late Laura Ferguson and Cleve Willis Baldwin.

Mr. Baldwin was a member of Beale Memorial Presbyterian Church and regularly attended Elon Baptist Church. He was a US Army veteran. He operated Ralco Store, Baldwin’s Greenhouse, and Baldwin’s Pulpwood Yard from where he retired. Mr. Baldwin also operated Baldwin’s Monuments and was owner and operator of Baldwin’s Small Engine Repair. He enjoyed farming and raising a large garden.

Mr. Baldwin made many friends over the years and never met a stranger. His family and friends were his greatest joys in life.

In addition to his wife, Billie Jean, he is survived by two sons, Ricky Baldwin and wife, Nancy and Jamie Baldwin; two daughters, Ernestine (Teenie) McGregor and husband, Frank and Debbie Baldwin; a brother, Wade Baldwin all of Pamplin; two sisters, Eva Tolbert of Silver Spring, MD and Janie Chapman of Farmville; nine grandchildren; 11-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Willis, Wiley, Howard, and David Baldwin and three sisters, Mary Ellen Hamlett, Grace Bucknam, and Ann Lee.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, December 5 in Elon Baptist Church by the Rev. Josh Tompkins and David Sexton. Burial will follow in Pamplin Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Robinson Funeral Home, Wednesday, December 4, from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the residence.
